Listening Blocks :
Blocks are the hurdles or barrier to the listening. We may experience to following of listening.
Comparing :
As a listener, we compare a speaker with others speaker to assess that who is confident, intelligent and emotionally healthy.
Mind reading :
The mind-reader doesn't pay much attention to what people say.The mind- reader pay less attention to words than to intonations. Intonation is the rise or fall of the voice at certain places of conversation or speech.
Rehearsing :
You don't have time to listen when you are rehearsing. Your whole attention is on the preparation and crafting of your next comment.
Filtering :
During listening, sometime our focus is to listen to the specific, relevant and required information only. For example:
During a roll-call, our attention is just to listen to our own name or roll number.
Judging:
Negative labels have enormous power. If you prejudge someone as unqualified, you don't pay much attention to what they say.
Dreaming:
You are half listening and something the other person says suddenly diverts your attention towards your private thoughts. Whatever is said by the speaker, you relate it to your personal thoughts.
Identifying:
Whatever is said by speaker,you relate it your personal experience. Everything you hear remind you of something you have felt, done or suffered.
Sparring:
Sparring refer to the growing and debating with people. In fact, a lot of your focus is on finding things with which to disagree.
Being Right:
You will keep on proving that the facts, ideas and suggestions provided by you are always correct. You cannot listen to criticism.
Derailing:
You divert the conversation when you get bored or uncomfortable with it. Another way of derailing is by joking.
Placating:
You really want to be nice and supportive. You want people to like you so you agree with everything, but you are not really involved.
